Thank you so much for looking after our cheeky boy while we’re away. Julio’s a good lad, but like any dog, he’s got his quirks. This little guide should give you everything you need to keep him happy, fed, walked, and out of trouble. If in doubt, drop us a message — and remember: when in doubt, a treat usually does the trick.
Food, Water & Treats
- Fresh water always available.
- Meals at 7:30am & 7:30pm — doesn’t need to be to the minute, but aim for roughly those times.
- After dinner: say “go to your place” and give him one dental stick. He’ll probably trot there himself.
- Food portion: ¼ of a pack per meal. (1 pack = 4 meals)
- Food’s in the fridge — make sure there’s defrosted food for the next day. Take the previously defrosted food out 30 mins before mealtime so it’s at room temperature.
- No human food. He’ll try… be strong. If he’s being a pest, send him to his bed and bribe him with a treat.
- Major no-no’s: chocolate, grapes/raisins, onions (inc. skin), apple seeds, fruit stones. Deadly stuff.
- Treats:
Grey pouch = high-value (for walks or when you really need his attention)
Black pouch = everyday treats (he might be fussy; his choice!)
Walkies & Adventures
- 3-4 walks a day:
Early (6–7am)
Lunchtime
Evening (5–6:30pm)
Before bed (he just needs to do a last wee before bed, so if you're comfortable with that the garden might be just fine, no need for a real walk)
- Quick 10–15 min wees & sniffs, except for the afternoon when he needs a proper runabout.
- Use the long lead (for the playtime, so he can run around). No off-lead adventures.
- For longer walks if you can, please put his harness on. If he starts to get annoyed while you’re trying to put it on, don’t worry and don’t insist. He can be a bit of a pain sometimes with the harness!
- Usual haunt: Millfields Park (the smaller bit, with the weekend cricket spot), but any nearby park works.
- He’s a scavenger – watch for bones, random food on pavements. Steer him away if you spot any.
- Take plenty of poo bags! He’s a multi-poo-er 💩
Hot Weather Tips️
- Skip walks if it’s roasting out.
- Stick to early mornings and shady spots.
- If he’s panting loads, wet the blue towel, pop it on the floor — he’ll chill on it.
- Loves an ice cube – perfect for warm days.
Playtime Rules
- Didn’t leave too many toys cos he’s a toy assassin.
- If he gets possessive, don’t yank it off him. Distract with a treat, get him to his bed, then swipe the toy once he’s away.
Nighttime Routine
- He’s got free rein at ours, including the bed… up to you if you want to allow it.
- Usually prefers sleeping on the floor or under the bed.
- If you’re okay with it, bring his mattress to your room.
- Don’t panic if he twitches in his sleep — he’s just chasing squirrels in his dreams 🐿️
How to speak Júlio
- Bilingual boy!
- "Espera" (ehs-PEH-rah) = wait.
- "Chão" (shah-oon) = go down.
- "Come" or "Aqui" (ah-KEE) + point = come here.
- "Pata" (PAH-tuh) = give paw.
- Others that work well:
"Sit", “not allowed”, “come here”, “this way”, and the ultimate “good boy”.
Other Things to Know ⚠
- Please avoid long grass & seed-heavy spots. Pesky grass seeds = vet visits.
- Anything weird or if you’ve got questions — just drop us a message anytime!
